253 Nigerians Voluntarily Return from Libya


No fewer than 253 more Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya on Tuesday aboard a chartered Airbus A330-200 with registration mark 5A-LAT operated by Libya Airlines. The aircraft landed about 6.45pm at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The returnees were made up of 102 males, 140 females, six children and five infants. They were brought back by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian embassy in Libya.

2 Brazilians Arrested at Lagos Airport after Cocaine worth N310m was Found Hidden in Food Cans in their Luggage


Two Brazilians have been arrested by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged drug trafficking. The duo – Dias Dos Santos Marcia Cristina, 36 and Lima Pereira Erick Diego, 20 – who traveled from São Paulo, Brazil, claimed to be tourists.

A statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju said that the drugs were carefully hidden in food cans inside their luggage. 9.4kg of cocaine was found in Dias’ bag while 14.465kg of the drug was found in Lima’s bag.

The estimated street value of the total seizure is said to be N310 million.

2 Persons Reported Dead after Uncompleted Building Collapsed in Lekki


A part of an uncompleted building at NICON Town Estate collapsed on Thursday afternoon in Lekki, Lagos. Social media reports state that 2 persons died in the accident.

According to Premium Times, an official of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) said there were “casualties”.

Nigerian Man and his Canadian Wife arrested by Border Officials over Human Trafficking


Michelle and Victor Omoruyi have been arrested by U.S. and Canadian immigration officials for alleged human trafficking, CBC News reports. The arrests were made after a four-month joint investigation in the Saskatchewan region.

Officials had been investigating Victor as he was frequently crossing the Canada-U.S. border.


Parents of Quintuplets Delivered in Abuja to get a House from FG + Job for Dad


The Head of Service of the Federation Winifred Oyo-Ita has promised to give a house to the couple who newly delivered quintuplets at the National Hospital Abuja.

Oyo-Ita made the promise while visiting the children on Saturday in Abuja. 

She said that the house will be given under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Scheme.

Jehovah’s Witnesses Banned in Russia, Labelled “Extremist” Organisation


Russia’s Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that Jehovah’s Witnesses is an “extremist” organisation and must hand over all its property to the state, Russian news agencies reported. Interfax News Agency quoted Sergei Cherepanov, a Jehovah’s Witnesses representative, as saying that the group will appeal the decision in the European Court of Human Rights. “We will do everything possible”, he said.

South Africa-based Nigerian Pastor Tim Omotoso Charged with Human Trafficking for Allegedly Molesting more than 30 Girls


South African police has arrested on Tim Omotoso, 58, the senior pastor of the Jesus Dominion International, an interdenominational ministry, based in Durban. He was arrested on Thursday at Port Elizabeth airport shortly after his flight landed.

Two Nigerians arrested at Cambodia Airport with drugs in their stomachs appear in court


Two Nigerian men arrested for smuggling 1.27 kilograms of cocaine in one of the men's stomachs have had their hearing postponed to seek evidence on whether they knew each other or had accidentally met at the airport. Phnom Penh Municipal Court presiding judge Heng Kesro on Tuesday, April 18th, ordered the postponement until April 28 to clarify what the relationship between the men was.

Rapists & Wife beaters to Face Life Sentence in Ekiti State


The Ekiti State Government on Monday announced that rapists and wife beaters now face life sentence. The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Information, Youth and Sports Development, Kola Ajumobi, said this at a public enlightenment forum in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Ajumobi also announced an increase in the maternity leave period for women in its public service from 12 weeks to 16 weeks.

Lagos State Commence Arrest And Prosecution Of Motorists Who Buys Goods In Traffic


According to reports, the government of Lagos State have commenced the immediate arrest and prosecution of motorists who buy goods in traffic. The enforcement was confirmed when officials of the Environmental Sanitation Corps Agency (LASERCORPS) arrested 6 motorists at Ikeja along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for allegedly buying goods in traffic.

Also four passengers and nine hawkers were arrested during the operation.

Whistleblower Leads EFCC to N4bn Lodged in 2 Bank Accounts

ISIS Suspect Deported to Nigeria from Germany

Germany has deported to Nigeria, an alleged Islamic extremist, an ISIS suspect, deemed dangerous by authorities. The German news agency, dpa reports that the 22-year-old man, who was born in Germany and who hadn’t committed a crime, arrived in Lagos Thursday.

A First-Time Mother Died at FMC Asaba after Delivering Twin Girls


A Facebook user Kay Lord has shared a heartbreaking story of how a man lost his wife at Federal Medical Centre (FMC). According to the husband, after his wife was delivered of twins through Cesarean Section, she needed more blood. The husband said he had earlier paid for two or three pints of blood but it was denied her.

He said he arrived at the hospital the next morning following his wife’s call. He narrated how his wife died because the hospital staff refused to carry out blood transfusion on her until they see proof of payment.

Navy Commander Found Dead in his Home in Lagos


The Nigerian Navy and the Police are currently investigating the cause of death of one Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli who was found dead at his residence in the Apapa area of Lagos State.
Ikoli, who was the Fleet Commander, Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos State, was in his house when his domestic staff heard gunshots.

Court Orders Unfreezing of Patience Jonathan’s Account Containing $5.8m


A Federal High court  in Lagos has unfrozen the domiciliary account of former first lady Patience Jonathan containing $5,842,316.66 at Skye bank Plc. The order of the court was sequel to an application  argued by her lawyer Adedayo Adedipe (SAN), leading seven other lawyers.
Adedipe urged the court to unfreeze the account on the ground that Patience Jonathan was not a party in the suit leading to the order made by the court.
