50 Missing, 5 Killed in Taraba floods

No fewer than five people were confirmed dead and more than 50 persons declared missing following torrential rains and flooding in Lau, Karim-Lamido and Gassol Local Government of Taraba.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, the chairmen of the affected councils also said crops and livestock worth millions of Naira were washed away by the flood.

Police recover 50 nude pictures from Cynthia's killers

Police detectives at the Area E Command, Lagos have said Cynthia Osokogu’s killers took pictures while sexually assaulting her.

The Area Commander, Damian Okoro, said, “The pictures are contained in a recovered black Compaq 610 laptop belonging to Nwabufor Okwuomo, one of the suspects who lured the deceased to Lagos.”

The laptop is also said to contain over 50 nude photographs of female victims who have fallen prey to the suspect.

Fire destroys shops and properties worth N1bn in Ibadan

Property worth more than one billion naira were lost as fire gutted Labaowo International Market, off Oke-Bola, Ibadan. A girl was also injured in the fire.

Although, no life was lost, traders whose wares were lost in the inferno that started some minutes past 10am struggled to retrieve one or two things from the burning fire.

Alison Madueke says: I'm not hospitalized

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke has debunked stories making the round that she was hospitalised in a London hospital for an undisclosed ailment, describing it as untrue.

Recalled that Diezani was said to have been hospitalized late last week for stress-related ailment after she accompanied President Goodluck Jonathan to commission new oil fields in Anambra state last Thursday.

Dana Airline Suspension Lifted- FG

Just seeing this and am still kind of speechless. The Federal Government lifted the suspension placed on Dana airlines operating licence.

The lifting of the ban on the operating licence of Dana airlines is coming four months after the airline had an ill-fated crash at the Iju-Shaga area of Lagos killing all 153 passengers on board and 10 others.

Bus catches fire in Lagos

Tragedy was averted this morning when a commuter bus caught fire at CMS bus-stop in Lagos Island.

The fire broke out during the morning rush hour at 8a.m, leading to a stampede as passengers in the bus scrambled to jump out.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA swiftly alerted the fire service but there was no response till the bus was totally razed.

No lives were lost while LASTMA officials controlled traffic flow.

Nigerian navy frees hijacked Singapore-owned oil tanker

Nigeria's navy says it has rescued a Singapore-owned oil tanker hijacked by pirates on Tuesday night.

Navy spokesman Kabir Aliyu told the BBC the crew was safe, the hijackers had fled and the vessel, the Abu Dhabi Star, was being escorted into the port of Lagos.

Earlier, the navy denied reports that the tanker was seized in the port.

NBC Responds: ‘WE HAVEN’T BANNED WANDE COAL’S VIDEO’

Weird Proposal: Man fakes own death, then proposes to girlfriend

A romantic (and possibly a bit insecure) Russian man faked his own death with an elaborate setup that involved stunt men, actors, make-up artists, and a bogus car crash all in order to see how his girlfriend would react to the (fabricated) news that he had died. It was a crazy ruse and could have gone wrong in about a million different ways. Fortunately, everything turned out for the best.

Alexey Bykov, 30, arranged to meet his girlfriend, Irena Kolokov, at the crash site. She arrived and saw chaos. There was a smoking car, an ambulance, and an actor dressed as a paramedic. According to reports, Kolokov said, "When I saw Alexey covered in blood lying in the road a paramedic told me he was dead and I just broke down in tears."

Cue the ta-da moment. Alexey (still covered with fake blood) rose to his feet and proposed. The bride-to-be was understandably a bit confused/livid but did accept the unconventional declaration of love. The two were married last week.  *Wow*

Late Cynthia’s BB found with Port Harcourt-based bizman

The last may not have been heard on the gruesome murder of Miss Cynthia Udoka Osokogu, the Delta State-born 2009 second runner-up of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, MBGN, with the recent recovery of her Black Berry, BB, mobile phone from a Port Harcourt-based businessman.

The middle-age man (names withheld) was arrested by detectives attached to Area ‘E’ Command Festac Town, Lagos, after the deceased’s BB pin number was retrieved from her father.

This is also coming on the heels of the discovery of a bizarre video recording of how Cynthia was allegedly raped by her suspected killers. The video was seen in the laptop of the suspects.

American attacked for having a relationship with a Nigerian woman

An American guy was thoroughly beaten on Friday for dating a Nigerian lady. The Nigeria-born Georgian woman, Olufisayo Bakare, said her boyfriend, 23-year-old Andrew Quade, was brutally beaten because the couple is inter-racial.

Bakare said that she and Quade were walking through Ellis Square in the evening when a trio of black men started making “racial comments” and “blowing kisses” at them. According to her, the men then attacked Quade.

Woman keeps baby in freezer for 10yrs

German prosecutors said Tuesday they had opened a manslaughter investigation against a 49-year-old woman after the corpse of a new-born baby girl was found in her freezer after 10 years.

The grisly find was made by her former husband on Friday when he defrosted the freezer in the house where they used to live, said prosecutors in the northern city of Flensburg.

Man tests positive to HIV after sleeping with under-age girl

A Harare man will rue the day he laid his hands on a 14-year-old HIV positive girl after he was arrested and charged for sleeping with an under age girl.

The 32-year-old man  pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate court yesterday, who remanded him in custody to Friday for sentence. He tested positive for HIV after a test was ordered by the court. He was not aware that the 14 years old girl was already positive because he believed that she was stll a virgin.

Spanish immigration authorities deports 27 Nigerians

Spanish authorities have deported 27 Nigerians for alleged armed robbery, drug trafficking, forgery and illegal immigration.

Police spokesman, Frank Mba said that the deportees were received at the international wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport,Lagos aboard a chartered Airline flight at about 07:30am on September 2 by officers of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau.

Son machetes father to death in Enugu

Tragedy struck at Obodoukwu Imoha, Nkerefi community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu weekend, when a young man allegedly went berserk and inflicted several machete cuts on his father, killing him instantly.

The suspect identified by the police as Chinedu Umahi, was said to have killed his father, Mr. Uwanuakwa Umahi while he was resting in his house about 6 pm on Saturday, September 1, with a sharp machete with which he gave him deep cuts in his body.

Campaigns for Leniency for Errant Pharmacists Begins

Families and friends of the two remanded pharmacists, Osita Orji, 32, and Chukwunonso Maduokor, 25, involved in the murder saga of Cynthia Osokogu last July 22, are mounting pressure on the police to drop the charges filed against them.  The pharmacists were arraigned along with Okwuma Nwabufo and Ezeike Olisaemeka, both of whom had confessed to killing Osokogu, on an eight-count charge of conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, rape, “unlawful administration of obnoxious substance” and “forceful administration of obnoxious substance” with a view to causing bodily harm.

Gunmen kill 5 plus burn church, police station in Borno

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram, weekend, stormed New Marte, Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, where they killed a Police Sergeant (names withheld), and two civilians.

The gunmen also set ablaze the Divisional Police Headquarters, Cocin Church and the residence of the Unit Commandant of the Army. Five vehicles parked in the premises of the police station were also burnt.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed, yesterday, in Ummarari and Gwange wards of Maiduguri metropolis by suspected terrorists.

Cliford Orji’s family rejects corpse

Family members of the celebrated alleged man-eater, Clifford Orji, who died three weeks ago, may have rejected him even at death. This is because nobody has come to claim his body. Orji died after 13 years of awaiting trialm in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Lagos, and his body was deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary.

Suspect hides cocaine in roasted chicken

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested an auto technician, Vincent Chinweuwa, for allegedly hiding 2.655kg of cocaine hidden inside roasted chicken.
The seizure was made at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos during the inward clearance of passengers on a Turkish Airline flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday.

Man, 34, commits suicide after winning N200m contract

A 34-year-old man simply identified as Tari, appears to have committed suicide in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, few hours after he was allegedly awarded a N200 million road contract by the state government.

Tari, who is believed to hail from Trofani in Sagbama Local Government Area, was awarded the Egbedi road contract in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

900 escape death as train rammed into trailer in Lagos

Over nine hundred passengers escaped death yesterday morning when a 10-coach Iddo bound train rammed into a trailer truck at Ilupeju Railway crossing near Oshodi, Lagos.

The accident which occurred at about 7:30 a.m. led to traffic gridlock along the Ilupeju/Oshodi road for several hours. Saturday Vanguard gathered that each of the coaches has 90 seats, but they were usually overloaded.


An eye witness said that the articulated vehicle blocked the railway crossing when the train was already close by.
