Senate Proposes Death Penalty for Kidnappers & a 5-year Jail Term for “Randy Lecturers”
The Senate on Wednesday said it will pass a bill for a law to make kidnapping in Nigeria punishable by death.
The resolution followed the adoption of recommendations of the report of by the Joint Committee on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence on the “unfortunate re-occurrence of kidnapping and hostage taking”.
The lawmakers held that capital punishment for the offence will serve as deterrent to potential offenders.

Nigerian Woman in South Korea throws her 3 Children from Fourth Level Window of a Burning Building
Precious Enyioko, 30, and her three children aged 1, 3, 4, were trapped in a burning building in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on Sunday, April 30th 2016. Miraculously, they survived without injuries.
To escape the incident, Precious had to dangle her baby through the window before she caught onlookers attention.

Edo Govt increases Workers’ Minimum Wage from N18,000 to N25,000
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Sunday announced the increment of the National Minimum Wage from N18,000 to N25, 000 with immediate effect for employees in the State Public Service.
He also promised prompt payment of outstanding arrears of salary to the staff of Local Government Councils in the state.
Oshiomhole who made the announcement on Sunday at the grand finale of activities to mark the 2016 Workers Day, said that plans had also been concluded to pay staff of Egor Local Government Council who were being owned 13 months arrears of salary, within the next two weeks.
Explaining why the council was omitted from the bailout to local government councils in 2015, he gave the assurance that the Edo Government had been meeting with the Central Bank of Nigeria and that within the next two weeks, the funds would be released and staff of the council would be paid in full.

FG Declares Monday May 2nd Public Holiday
The Federal government has declared Monday May 2nd a public holiday to commemorate workers day celebration which falls on Sunday May 1st.
The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau announced this in a statement released and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Bassey Akpanyung.

36-year-old Nigerian woman arrested in Indonesia on drug trafficking charges
Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has nabbed a Nigerian woman on charges of drug trafficking following a tip-off from the public. The 36-year-old suspect, identified by her initials LN, was arrested in Dagen area, Yogyakarta on Wednesday, April 20.
"The case came to the light after we received a tip-off from members of the public that there would be a drug related transaction at a hotel in Yogyakarta," BNN Chief Commissioner General Budi Waseso said.
Ibe Kachikwu Says Fuel Crisis To End By Next Week
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, says the fuel crisis being experienced in the country will end by next week. Kachikwu said this while speaking to state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting today April 20th. He blamed the scarcity on saboteurs.
Nudists Restaurant To Open In London
A nudists restaurant is set to open in London this June where diners can dine naked. The restaurant offers a place “free from phones, electric lights and even clothing.” The eatery hopes to take customers back to “the beginning where everything was fresh, free and unadulterated from the trappings of modern life.”
There will be naked and clothed sections. The waiting list for the restaurant is phenomenal. The website states it already has nearly 5,000 names on it.

Boko Haram now gives Loans to Youths as Bait for Membership – Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Army has said that the terror group, Boko Haram have come up with another way of recruiting more people into their organisation. It advised the public, particularly those in the North East to be conscious of the tactics of the terrorist sect and not accept loans from which are not from conventional sources (banks, organised trade unions or institutionalized savings and loans establishments).

NDLEA recovers 193 wraps of cocaine in passenger’s socks
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday said it recovered 193 wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine inside a passenger’s socks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
This is contained in a statement issued and signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
According to the statement, the drug which tested positive for cocaine with a total weight of 3.4 kilogrammes was detected during routine screening of passengers on an Emirates flight from Dubai.

Nigerian Witchcraft Victim Loses Fight To Stay In Australia
A Nigerian man who told authorities he had been the victim of witchcraft in his home country has lost his bid to stay in Australia. The Migration Review Tribunal accepted that witchcraft takes place in Nigeria and that such practices had "the potential to physically harm victims".
However, the tribunal did not accept the man, named in court only as "Wzavl", was likely to suffer at the hands of witchcraft practitioners if he was returned, because he would live in a city about 95 kilometres from the village in which he had been the victim of witchcraft.
NYSC Member Killed During Rivers Re-Run Laid to Rest
The body of the late Chukwudumebi Okonta, fondly called “Pastor”, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member killed during the recent re-run elections in Rivers, was laid to rest on Friday.
Okonta was buried in his fathers compound at Ogbe-Orji Quarters in Illah, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta amidst tears by family members, friends and other mourners.

3 Nigerians who posed as tourists to rob hotel rooms in Thailand, arrested
Three Nigerian men who burglarized hotel rooms across Pattaya City, Thailand were arrested on March 27, police officers said in a statement. The men identified as Mr. Jaho Jaho Nonso, 30, Mr. Ugochukwu, 30, and Mr. Samuel Osas, 30 allegedly posed as tourists, checked into a Pattaya hotel, and burglarized it.

Civil Defence Operative Kills Boy In Cold Blood Over Fuel
According to The SUN, an eyewitness said the deceased who was about 18 years of age, was seen lying on the floor begging the officers that they should allow him go that he was not a fuel hawker but was heading home, unfortunately, he was shot by a female NSCDC officer on the directive of their commander for resisting arresting.
The eyewitness also said that as soon as the officials saw the boy in his pool of blood, they hopped on their patrol van and fled the scene.
Officers of the Op Mesa and the Nigeria Police led by the FESTAC Police Station Divisional Police Officer, Monday Agbonika as at press time, were on ground, making sure that the angry mob who attempted to set the filling station and some petrol tankers ablaze were controlled.

FG Directs Public Hospitals to Save Lives First in Emergency Cases before Demanding for Money
Nigeria’s Minister of Health Prof Isaac Adewole yesterday directed all public hospitals nationwide to save patient’s health first during emergencies before demanding for money.
He gave the directive on Thursday during his first official visit to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH. The minister blamed the poor performance of public hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres on underfunding saying that only 6,000 PHCs out of the 30,000 in the country are functional.
“Accidents, among other emergency cases can occur at anytime, so patients should not be refrained from accessing treatment. The poverty indicator shows that 60 to 70 percent of Nigerians are poor. This means about 100 million people are poor in Nigeria. So, we will provide basic care through the PHC system for Nigerians.” he said.

New Ebola Death Recorded in Liberia Months after the Country Was Declared Ebola-free
Months after the country was declared ebola free, Liberia has released a statement saying a 30-year old woman died of the disease on Thursday.
Reuters reports that the woman was being brought to a hospital in the capital Monrovia after falling ill, but died before she arrived.

No More Restricted Movement During Environmental Sanitation in Lagos – Gov. Ambode
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in a statement by the state commissioner for the environment, Babatunde Adejare said that the restriction of movement between 7 Am and 10 AM will no longer take effect.
The statement read that the Government cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period of three hours.
