Two Bomb Attacks In Maiduguri Leave Several JTF Members Injured

A bomb planted at the West End roundabout in Maiduguri has injured several members of the Joint Task Force in Maiduguri according to eyewitnesses.

Saharareporters learnt that the large bomb embedded at the West End roundabout, which was remotely controlled, exploded around 10 AM Nigerian time. A second blast was reported at Sabon Layi area in Gwange Ward. Details of the second blast are sketchy.

The JTF spokesperson, Lt. Col Musa Sagir, confirmed there were explosions in the city but said a full briefing will be made to the media as the JTF was still actively patrolling the city to determine those responsible for the latest attacks.

Catholic Churches In Enugu Bans Handbags And Headgears

ST. Theresa Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka, Enugu State on Sunday August 26th, told their parishioners that from September 9th 2012, the church will no longer allow women with big head gears and handbags into the church premises. Only head scarfs and very small purses are allowed. What the church said below..

“Please, in view of the present security challenges, the church has urged women to stop coming to Sunday service with big headgears and bags to enable security men know when bomb will be smuggled into the church. The church has directed security men at the church gate to seize big head gears and bags from Sept. 9. This measure is aimed towards enhancing the security of the faithful during Sunday mass.”

Ex-Delta Speaker, Igbrude, slumps, dies in hospital

FORMER Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Igbrude, allegedly slumped and died in a hospital yesterday afternoon.

Igbrude, who became the Speaker of  Delta State House of Assembly June 3, 2003, was reported to have taken his child to St Luke’s Hospital in Asaba and while the treatment of the child was going on, he demanded to use the toilet and reportedly slumped and died there.

A close source who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the death, saying: “This is a great blow. We are all devastated by this (death). He was hale and hearty when he went to the hospital.”

He was said to have died at about 2pm.

Igbrude, who was a staunch member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had decamped to DPP due to party differences, but in March last  year staged a come back to PDP, with some of his followers.

17 Beheaded At Party In Bloody Afghan Day

Taliban Islamist insurgents beheaded 17 party-goers, 10 Afghan soldiers were killed and two NATO troops shot dead in a new insider attack in a bloody day across Afghanistan, officials said Monday.
The party-goers, including two women, were holding a gathering with music in a southern Afghanistan village.
"I can confirm that this is the work of the Taliban," the Helmand provincial governor's spokesman Daud Ahmadi told AFP. "Two women and 15 men were beheaded. They were partying with music in an area under the control of the Taliban."

Davido Donates N1m To Save Debbie From Breast Cancer

News just reaching us has it that singer, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke has made a donation one million Naira to save Debby, who needs about six million Naira for surgery for the removal of breast cancer she is suffering from.

A source said that Davido called some minutes ago to make his intention known to give out the amount. As time the time we posted the earlier story about Debbie, she had reportedly gotten about 85,000 Naira donated for her cause.

We reported that doctors have disclosed that she only has a month to live if the surgery is not undergone quickly. Bless him!!!

Nigeria confirms informal Boko Haram talks

The Nigerian government says it has started informal talks with Boko Haram to try to end deadly attacks by the militant Islamist group.

A presidential spokesman said the dialogue was through "backroom channels", without elaborating further.

The group's main faction earlier this week ruled out peace talks.

Boko Haram, which wants to create an Islamic state, is accused of killing hundreds of people and targeting churches and other targets.

As the country struggles to curb the violent activities of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram, international intelligence agencies have uncovered plans by al-Qaeda, to launch fresh attacks on Nigeria, Ghana and two other African countries. Al-Qaeda, which was founded by the late Osama bin Laden, has launched attacks all over the world.

Investigations by SUNDAY PUNCHauthoritatively showed that the targeted countries were receiving help from Western nations on how to prevent the onslaught. Kidnappers cause panic in Delta

FEAR has gripped residents of Delta State following rampant kidnapping in the state.

The police, however, responded to the growing fear, weekend, by raiding suspected kidnappers’ hideouts at Warri, Asaba and other parts of the state in search of moneymaking kidnappers.

Sources also said Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has given fresh directives to security agencies in the state to arrest the trend.

Sodium Brand Solutions and Reve Entertainment have announced the line up for this year's edition of "Naija Corner" at the Nottinghill Carnival in London.

Executive producer Abisoye Fagade says some of the biggest names in Nigerian music will come together on Monday August 27, to deliver 100 percent entertainment to fans at the authentic Nigerian corner.

Obi Asika, CEO of Storm 360, announced earlier today that Olisa Adibua has been removed from his position as a director at Storm.

Tiger Kills Female Keeper At German Zoo

A tiger has attacked and killed a female keeper at Cologne Zoo in Germany before being shot dead.
The tiger managed to escape from its enclosure into an adjacent storage building, where it jumped on top of the 43-year-old keeper.
The woman, mauled and biten by the giant cat, later died of her wounds in hospital.

A woman has drowned after she was pulled under water by her saturated wedding dress while having photographs taken near waterfalls in Canada.
Quebec provincial police said the unnamed woman's body was recovered four hours after she disappeared under the water at Dorwin Falls.

Nigerian Immigration arrests 13 Chinese for prostitution

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Friday in Abuja paraded 13 Chinese nationals who were arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in the country. A distress call from one of the victims prompted the immigration service to carry out a raid on some operational locations of some of the syndicates.

According to a report by Daily Times, Mr. Joachim Olumba  spokesman for the NIS, said the suspects were apprehended in Lagos following a tip off from an informant. He said the service received a report on the activities of some Chinese nationals who connived with some Nigerians to traffic teenage girls into the country under the pretext of offering them jobs in factories and preliminary investigation confirmed that most of the women were sponsored into the country by some “criminal human traffickers who are currently at large”.

Suspect ingests 88 wraps of cocaine

Handel Omekanneji was recently arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for ingesting 88 wraps of cocaine.

The discovery was made by officials of the National Dug Law Enforcement Agency during the inward screening of passengers on an Iberia Airline flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Immigrants march in Greece against racist attacks

ATHENS (Reuters) - Thousands of immigrants marched in Athens on Friday to protest police sweeps and a rash of racist attacks in Greece as the country struggles to pull itself out of a huge debt crisis.
Greece is a major gateway for mostly Asian and African migrants trying to enter the European Union. They face increased hostility as the country struggles through its deepest post- World War Two recession and record unemployment, propelling the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn party to parliament for the first time since the fall of a military junta in 1974.

Patent Row: Samsung Ordered To Pay Apple \$1bn

Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple \$1.05bn (£664m) after a court in California found it had infringed patents.
The decision in the complex case came after the nine-member jury began deliberations on Wednesday.
Apple said it may now seek a ban on some Samsung products being sold in the US while Samsung has vowed to appeal the court verdict.
Apple filed its complaint in April 2011 and engaged legions of America's highest-paid patent lawyers to demand \$2.5bn (£1.6bn) from its top smartphone competitor. Samsung Electronics had fired back with its own lawsuit seeking \$399m.

Robbery Suspect Survives 20 Bullets Through His Body In Osun State

A robbery suspect  in Osun State stunned a combined team of police officers and members of a vigilance group when he survived 20 bullets. Adedeji Ojo, who is in his early 30s, was a member of a four-man robbery gang that operated on the Ibadan/Akure Expressway and Osu/Ilesha Road in Osun State for months before their arrest recently. Ojo lived in Lagos before joining the daredevil gang, which terrorised residents.

The bandits’ mode of operation involved littering the road with iron and nails. Any unsuspecting motorist that steps on them would have his tyres deflated. As the driver attempts to fix the tyres, the gang would emerge from their hideout usually in the bush and attack the victims. They often robbed and raped their victims.

Gunmen Assassinate Ghanian Woman in Lagos

A pretty Ghanaian lady married to a Nigerian and living in Lagos with her family met her sudden death a few days ago when unknown gunmen shot both her and her husband .Faustina Adigwe, a mother of two kids, died after two men on a motorcycle fired at her from close range in the Randle area of Surulere, not too far from Ojuelegba. The husband survived and is presently in hospital.

Breivik Apologises For Not Killing More

Mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has apologised to "militant nationalists" for not killing more people during a shooting spree and bomb attack in Norway.
He was speaking after a five-judge panel in Oslo ruled he was sane as he killed 77 people last year and sentenced him to 21 years in jail.

According to reports, the professor was released at about 11:30pm, Thursday, around Igbariam in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The professor was kidnapped by gunmen in-front of the university gate  nine days ago.

Anders Behring Breivik: Norway court finds him sane

A Norwegian court has found that mass killer Anders Behring Breivik is sane and sentenced him to 21 years in jail.

Breivik admitted killing 77 people and wounding more than 240 others when he bombed central Oslo and then opened fire at an island youth camp last year.

He insisted he was sane and refused to plead guilty, seeking to justify his attacks by saying they were necessary to stop the "Islamisation" of Norway.

Dead body found under jumbo jet

A stowaway has been found dead inside a British Airways jumbo jet after it touched down at Heathrow early on Thursday.
The body of the man was discovered in the landing gear bay of the Boeing 747 after a 6,000-mile flight from Cape Town, BA said.
Police said the man was not a passenger or a member of the crew on the flight from South Africa's second busiest airport.

Man Bites Snake to Death, Yeah You Read It Right The First Time.

A Nepali farmer who was bitten by a cobra in his rice paddy field has killed the snake by repeatedly biting it in return.


"A snake charmer told me that if a snake bites you, bite it until it is dead and nothing will happen to you," Mohammed Salmodin told the BBC.

He has now been discharged from hospital where he was being treated for the snake bite.

Officials say he will not be charged because the reptile was not endangered.

Crackdown on foreign NHS treatment

Ministers have warned they will not tolerate abuse of the NHS by foreign visitors after a woman reportedly flew from Nigeria so that she could have her baby in a British hospital.
The unnamed woman was alleged to have received treatment totalling £10,000 but returned home after having had her child without paying anything.
Health Minister Simon Burns said that the Government was looking to tighten the rules to prevent "inappropriate" access to free hospital treatment by foreign visitors.

US Republican leader says that rape pregnancy is a “blessing”

Sharon Barnes, a high ranking Republican out of the state of Missouri, made some comments that might even be considered worse than those made by her colleague, Todd Akin.  Coming to the defence of Akin, who said that it’s virtually impossible for a woman to get pregnant while being raped, Barnes was quoted by the New York Times as saying:  ”If God has chosen to bless this person [the rape victim] with a life, you don’t kill it.”

She went on to say that abortion “is not an option,” since apparently, the abundant blessings of being pregnant after being raped are just too great to pass over.
