Salem voted him out for attending a local Rick Ross concert. With a vote of 11 to 3, the 14 deacons met at 11pm Saturday night to discuss and come to a conclusion that they did not need his services anymore. Rev. Wills arrived to the church the next day for Sunday morning worship service and notice his parking sign taken down and his name removed from the office door. See Gobe

The deacons even asked another minister from the community to officiate the service that morning. “We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God.” said Deacon Miles Langley.

Free bus ride for Lagosians on Eid-el-Fitri

The Lagos State Government will provide free bus ride to Nigerians living in Lagos on Friday, 9 August, 2013 to ease movement during the Eid-Il-Fitr celebration.

The free bus ride, according to a statement by the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola said the service would run for 13 hours starting at 7.00am and ending at 10.00pm.

He said the first BRT Cooperative, operator of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) would offer free services on Mile 12 –CMS, Mile 12 – Obalende, Ajah to National Stadium, Ajah – Obalende, Mile 12 – National Stadium, Mile 2 – National Stadium, Oshodi – Obalende and Oshodi – National Stadium routes.

On the Bus Franchise Scheme (BFS) corridor, he said free services would be offered on the Ikotun – Ikeja – Maryland, Iyana-Ipaja – Maryland, Ikotun – IyanaIpaja, Igando – IyanaIpaja, Igando – Ikeja, and Igando – Maryland routes.

11 year old girl set on fire in India for resisting rape

An 11-year-old Indian girl who was reportedly set on fire after resisting an attempted rape died of her injuries Sunday, according to reports. The minor was admitted with critical burn injuries, but the hospital where she was treated said, she has succumbed to her injuries.

According to The Times of India, the attack happened Wednesday, July 31, in Salkia. The victim was reportedly doused in kerosene and set on fire by two men who had attempted to rape her. She had said she recognized the men and had threatened to tell her parents.

She suffered burns on 70 percent of her body. One of the suspects, who is 18 has been arrested and charged with attempted rape and attempted murder. This is sad.

Lagos State's New Domestic Violence Law - Beat Your Woman, Land In Jail!

This is a good one. It is now, officially, an offense for any man to hit his woman in Lagos State and it doesn't matter if you two are legally married, as long as you are living together in a home setting.

According to the deputy governor of Lagos State, Hon Joke Orelope-Adefulire, the new Domestic Violence Law protects women who are most times the target of violence in the home and also safeguard the interest of men, children, servants, maids and everyone who may be a victim of domestic violence. 

 Here's what happens when there's a case of domestic violence:

•  Remove the abuser from the home pending when the abuse is corrected
•  Or remove the complainant from the residence and put in a protective home
•  Provision of financial assistance by the state via the Office of the Public Defender/Legal Aid Council to victims of abuse who maybe financially unable to seek redress in court.
•  The court can issue warrant of arrest and remand order

Weeks after an impostor who claimed to be the talented singer, Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid defrauded students of the University of Lagos (Unilag) of the sum of N500,000,00 as full payment for a show tagged “ Concert for Life”, the ugly incident has repeated itself.

This time around, the victims are not Unilag students, but an Owerri,Imo State-based businessman, Chief Chukwudi Ofoha who is the CEO of Ibari Ogwa, a popular hangout located in the World Bank area of Owerri.

11yr Old Househelp set ablaze by Madam Dies

I posted a story on Thursday (read here) about a woman who allegedly set her 11 year old maid ablaze because she stole a meat from her pot of soup. Eno Bassey, the maid suffered 95percent burns when her Madam set her ablaze.

Unfortunately she died on Thursday August 1,2013 around 2am. May her soul rest in Peace. I hope her Madam will be able to forgive herself. 

By the Year 2023 there would be Scarcity of Quality Husbands

The National Council Of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria have encouraged parents to send their male children to school. According to them, most male children are on the streets hawking, while they are supposed to be in school. In the next 10years there would be scarcity of quality husbands in the country.

“The future of this country is going to be very bleak for the male-child. How many girls do you see hawking clothes? Go to Onitsha, they are all men. We have looked round and have come to see that there is a neglect of boys in education. Who are the armed robbers on the streets? They are mostly the boys. Let us concentrate on training boys.

Ridiculous: Woman sets 11yr old ablaze over piece of Meat

Wickedness in the highest places. According to Nigerian Vnaguard Policemen at Bode Thomas division of Lagos State command, Tuesday, arrested a woman who allegedly set her 11-year-old house maid ablaze in Surulere area of Lagos, for stealing a piece of meat from her pot of soup.

The maid identified as Ita Bassey-Eno who reportedly escaped death by the whiskers, is currently at the Burns and Trauma Centre of the Gbadaga General Hospital, with doctors battling to save her life. Although her mistress, a staff nurse at an undisclosed hospital in Surulere, Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, reportedly denied the allegation at the police station, the ailing girl was said to have managed to state that she allegedly poured kerosene on her before striking a stick of matches to set her on fire.

Nigerians to begin payment of £3,000 bond from November

From November 2013, Nigeria will be among the six listed Commonwealth 'high risk' countries whose citizens will be required to pay £3,000 tourists visa bond before they are allowed into the UK. The remaining five are: India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The UK government says it's not all visitors that will be required to pay the bond, just people they consider 'highest risk'; that is people who will collect visa and refuse to leave Britain or overstay their visa terms. Those paying bonds will receive the bond back, if they abide by the terms of their visa.

According to the UK Financial Times report, the UK Home Office say there's no going back as the scheme is their most effective way of tackling abuse in their immigration system. Nigeria and the other five countries account for more than five hundred thousand visa applications in 2012. So apply for your visas before November oh.
