Woman Allegedly Drugs Lover And Steals His $1.5m

The Police at Ikoyi division, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested a 46-year-old woman, Pearl Victoria Alaegbu, for allegedly conniving with a guard to rob her lover, Prince Hillary Unachukwu of his $1.5m (equivalent to N295.5m). 

Police alleged that the incident occurred on 13 December, 2015 at Ojora Road, Ikoyi, Lagos when the woman allegedly connived with a guard to lock the victim inside a room with a padlock, ransacked his bedroom and allegedly stole his $1.5 and escaped. 

Nigerian Woman Sentenced To Life Imprisonment In Tanzania For Drug trafficking

A Nigerian woman, Edigin Vivian, alongside a Kenyan, Josephine Mumbi Waithera, were yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment in Tanzania after being found guilty of trafficking drugs worth Sh289 million. According to Daily Post, Justice Aishiel Sumari convicted Vivian of trafficking
797.56 grams of cocaine worth Sh39.8 million, through Kilimanjaro International Airport, KIA. 

Malaysia-based Yahoo Boy Sentenced To 24 years For N25 Million Internet Scam

The EFCC is reporting that a Malaysia-based Yahoo Boy has been sentenced to 24 years in jail for a N25 Million internet scam.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced an undergraduate of Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia: Hope Olusegun Aroke to twenty-four years imprisonment for his involvement in an internet scam that fetched him Four Thousand riaait (N25,000,000).

Céline Dion’s Husband René Angélil Dies at 73 following Battle with Throat Cancer

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil has died at 73 after a long and courageous battle against cancer, his reps explained exclusively to People Magazine on Thursday 14th of January. 

According to his reps, Rene Angelil passed away at his home in Las Vegas and his family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment.

Rene was a music manager who discovered Celine Dion when she was 12. The two later got married in 1994 and have three children René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan has been awarded the African Sun Times’ International Person of the Year 2015. The organizers of the award said Jonathan was picked for his role in ensuring a peaceful transition in Nigeria.

Six Nigerian Banks Reportedly Set to Merge in January 2016

According to a report by Citizen, Six commercial banks are likely to seek mergers and acquisitions in the New Year.

The publication reports that the development arises, “no thanks to the shock created in their assets and balance sheet sizes in the face of declining oil prices. Crude oil prices have fallen to as low as $37.11 per barrel from over $110 per barrel a year ago. This has adversely affected banks’ oil assets. Besides, the level of non-performing loans in the sector has risen.”

According to the report,  Managing Director, Sterling Bank Plc, Yemi Adeola, who disclosed the news yesterday, reportedly stating that he envisaged possible shrinking in the number of local banks in the New Year.

Popular Aba based comedian and actor, Dede One Day has died. The actor slumped while anchoring an event in Obehi in Abia state. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. He was in his 40s. May his soul rest in peace, Amen!

Unemployment Rate Will Be Lower After The 2016 Budget Is Passed - Buhari

President Mohammadu Buhari at a dinner he organised in honour of the visiting Alumni Association of the Indian Defence Services Staff College,DSSC, Wellingon, led by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Ghanashyam, yesterday, said that the problem of youth unemployment in the country will reduce after the 2016 national budget is passed.

Lamenting that 60 per cent of the country’s youth population was unemployed, the President said: 

“We will sit down to see how we can rehabilitate industries. We will do this in order to clear the problem of unemployment. This is extremely dangerous for our country. We are meeting after the budget to see how to revive industry and secure the economy.”

The President also said that the insecurity in the North-East, abduction for ransom in the South and the sabotage of the oil industry in the Delta region are all connected to poverty and unemployment.

“We are meeting after the budget to see how to revive industry and secure the economy,” he further assured.

Man Allegedly Poisons Wife And Records Her ‘Slow’ Death On Camera

29-year-old businessman, Oluchi Ajimowu, who was allegedly involved in the death of his wife, Priscilla Ajimowu, a 23-year-old mother of two, has been apprehended by the State Department for Criminal Investigation, SCID, Yaba, Lagos State. 

Nigerian Drug Dealer Jailed In London For Possession Of Cocaine And Heroin

A Nigerian drug dealer has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after police found 79 wraps of class A drugs hidden under a bath in Chelmsford, Essex.

Lekan Awosika, 25, of Central Park Road, East Ham, was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 27, 2015 after he was found guilty of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

Awosika was arrested on March 25 this year by officers from Operation Saturn, a team formed in 2014 to tackle gang related violence and drug crime.

He was taken into custody after officers noticed the bath panel at a property on Victoria Crescent, had been tampered with and discovered 34 wraps of crack cocaine and 45 of heroin hidden in a plastic bag behind it. Awosika was also found to be carrying two mobile phones and more than £300 in cash.

A former commissioner for finance in Adamawa State, John Babani Elias, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for diverting state funds. The conviction followed a corruption case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, against the one-time commissioner of local government and chieftaincy Affair.

2 Year Jail Term or N2 Million Fine proposed for “Abusive Statements on Social Media” inc. Twitter, Instagram & WhatsApp

There goes your freedom of speech people. In December 2013, the Nigerian Senate reached an advanced stage of approval for a bill which proposed the following. Section 13 subsection 3 of the bill stated that: “Anyone who intentionally propagates false information that could threaten the security of the country or that is capable of inciting the general public against the government through electronic message shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction shall be sentenced to seven years imprisonment or N5 million (fine).” 

Lion Escapes from Cage at Wild Life Park in Jos

A lion escaped from the Jos Wild Life Park on Wednesday according to John Doy, Acting General Manager, Plateau Tourism Corporation.

He said the lion escaped “at about 8 a.m. while it was being fed”.

Doy said that the lion, which had been caged since 1972, “slipped through the gate of the cage when it was opened for its routine feeding. The animal is still within the vicinity of the Park but our fear is that the Park is not fenced. We are struggling to recapture it, but we want members of the public to be vigilant,” he said.
