No More Restricted Movement During Environmental Sanitation in Lagos – Gov. Ambode
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in a statement by the state commissioner for the environment, Babatunde Adejare said that the restriction of movement between 7 Am and 10 AM will no longer take effect.
The statement read that the Government cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period of three hours.

Pro-Democracy Activist Tunji Braithwhite Dies At 82
Elder stateman Tunji Braithwaite passed on today, Monday, March 28th 2016 at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Nigeria after a brief illness.
He was founder of the Nigerian Advance Party (NAP) and was a delegate at the 2014 Nigeria National Conference where he canvassed for a Confederal Constitution to replace the 1999 Constitution.
May his soul rest in peace.

Ibinabo Fiberesima stripped of her AGN Presidency
According to reports, Nollywood actress Ibinabo Fiberesima has been stripped of her position as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
This was revealed in a press statement sent out by AGN’s National Secretary, Femi Durojaiye.

Teacher in Edo State gets 4 Years Jail Sentence for Sexually Assaulting a Student
A 47-year-old father of three, Rotimi*, has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court in Edo State for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
According to the Punch, the prosecutor, Osasu Ewemade, told the court that Rotimi, who was said to be an English teacher in a secondary school, had committed the crime on the 26th of May, in his office in the school.

Banker Arrested for Stealing N23 Million from a Dead Customer In Lagos
A 36-year-old staff of Eco Bank in Ejigbo, Lagos, Nicholas*, has been arrested for allegedly stealing N23m from the bank account of a dead customer.
According to Daily Times, Nicholas, who had knowledge of the client’s death, was caught by the management of the bank attempting to claim the deceased’s money with forged documents. He had conspired with someone called Junior* and had given him the forged documents to bring to the bank in order claim the money as beneficiary.
FG Declares March 25 & 28 Public Holidays for Easter
The Federal Government has declared Friday, 25th of March and Monday, 28th of March as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations respectively.

Explosions Rock Brussels Airport and Metro Station - 28 Dead & at least 55 Injured
There have been a total of three explosions in Brussels, Belgium today which have killed about 28 people, and left at least 55 injured.
Two of the explosions rocked the Zaventem Airport, Tuesday morning, with the third hitting a Maalbeek subway station 400 metres from European Union headquarters.

No More Facebook and WhatsApp for BlackBerry Phones And Android Phones
Just last month, WhatsApp announced that it will no longer support all Blackberry phones, some Nokia phones, and older Android phones. Few weeks after that, Facebook is following it’s subsidiary to drop support for Blackberry phones.
This means there’ll be no Facebook and Whatsapp apps for the BlackBerry platform anymore. Although, Facebook will give BlackBerry users an app that will link them to Facebook through the web, but there is virtually no difference between that and user one’s normal device browser.
According to Independent, BlackBerry said that it was “extremely disappointed” in Facebook’s decision, saying, “We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands…. Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure our end users have the best experience in light of this decision and are continuing to search for alternate solutions.”

Customs Intercept 3 Boats Loaded with Marijuana in Lagos
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday said it had intercepted three boats loaded with marijuana along an unnamed waterway in Lagos.
The Customs Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General Charles Edike, made the disclosure in Lagos while speaking at a Stakeholders’ Forum organised by the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
Vatican Confirms Mother Teresa Will Be Canonised In September
Mother Teresa will be canonised a saint in September the Vatican confirms as Pope Francis has issued a decree. She will be declared a saint of the Roman Catholic on 4 September, a day before her 19th death anniversary.
The pontiff gave his final approval during a meeting of cardinals in the Vatican's Apostolic Palace. Four others were also considered by the panel during the gathering on 15 March but Mother Teresa was the only high-profile candidate.

U.K to Deport Non EU Migrants Earning Less Than £35,000 from April
From next month, non-EU migrants earning less than £35,000 will be forced to leave the UK Home Office announced recently. The policy which comes into force on April 6, applies to all overseas workers who have been in the UK for five years on a Tier 2 visa.
If they can’t prove that they’re earning more than £35,000, they will be denied settlement and will face deportation. Teachers, IT professionals and journalists could all be badly affected.
According to Metro.co.uk, a petition launched at the beginning of the year called for the threshold to be reconsidered – it gathered more than 100,000 signatures and was debated in parliament last week. Hmmmm
Medical Students In Nigeria to Spend 11 Years in University – NUC
Medical students in Nigeria have been mandated by the National Universities Commission to spend eleven years in the university.
According to the Punch, this mandate was made during the lecture “Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges”, presented by Professor Chiedu Mafiana on behalf of the commission’s Executive Secretary Professor Julius Okojie at the maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo State.

Libya Deports 172 Nigerians for Various Immigration Offences
172 Nigerians deported from Libya over immigration-related offences arrived the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deportees, comprising 166 male and six female, arrived the Hajj Camp of the international wing of the MMA, Lagos, at about 7am.
Nollywood Actress Ibinabo Fiberesima To Serve a 5-year Jail Term
Actress Ibinabo Fiberesima has been slammed a 5-year jail term by The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur delivered the decision on Friday, saying that the appeal was shallow and lacked merit.
She (Ibinabo) was alleged to have collided with the car of a staff of Lagos State hospital, late Giwa Suraj as a result of reckless driving on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in February 2006.
The Nollywood actress had already been fined N100,000 by a Magistrate court, a decision that was overruled by the High Court. Justice Oluwayemi of the trial Court replaced the fine with a five-year jail term, saying that the Magistrate exercised “judicial recklessness” by giving the option of a fine.
She appealed the case, but according to Vanguard newspaper, her appeal was dismissed; thus setting her on the path to a 5-year jail term.

The US feds have adopted and taken over the case of identification fraud involving a Nigerian man, Uchenna Azubuike, 29 charged with 13 counts identification fraud in Thomasville. The feds adopted the case over suspicions of ties with terrorist activities.

Senate Extends JAMB Exam Validity to Three Years & Reduces Fee
The Senate Upper Chamber on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 extended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Entrance Examination (UTME) validity period to three years from one year.
This means students who write the entrance exam in a particular year and fail to secure admission in that year can use the same result in the subsequent years up until its expiration three years after. Good stuff!
