A 47-year-old father of three, Rotimi*, has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court in Edo State for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
According to the Punch, the prosecutor, Osasu Ewemade, told the court that Rotimi, who was said to be an English teacher in a secondary school, had committed the crime on the 26th of May, in his office in the school.
He explained that the teacher had invited the victim, a 13-year-old pupil of the school, to his office where he sexually assaulted her.
Ewemade said the offence contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable in Edo and the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, found him guilty on all counts, sentencing him to one year in prison for each count.
The prison terms, the magistrate added, would run concurrently. He then gave an option of fine of N50,000 for each of the counts. The teacher pleaded not guilty.
