President Goodluck Jonathan To Inaugurate Oil Production In Anambra State

President Goodluck Jonathan will inaugurate crude oil production in Anambra State on Thursday to mark the beginning of inland basin crude oil production in Nigeria.

A programme of events for the one-day state visit of the President to Anambra, released on Monday, showed that he would also inaugurate three private industries at the Harbour Industrial Estate and the River Port in Onitsha.

The industries are Krisoral Industry for the production of pilfer-proof caps and bottle corks owned by the Krisoral Company Limited; Orange Drugs factory; and Sabmiller Brewery, the second biggest brewery in Africa.

The crude oil production is undertaken by Orient Petroleum Resource Plc, a private/public sector company established by the Anambra State Government for the exploration and refining of crude oil and gas in the Anambra Basin.

The company has licence for two oil blocks, OPL 915 and 916, covering an area of 2158 square kilometre.

Orient Petroleum said it had completed a well in Anambra State for the production where the inauguration would take place.

The company also said that it had completed a 10km access road leading to the well location and installed production facility for the production and evacuation of crude oil.

It also said that it had plans to drill some high capacity wells to guarantee crude oil feedback for the refinery.

It stated that the present state of oil development activities would facilitate early completion of the refinery, expected in the next 12months.

“OPR had visited and continues to brief the governors of the states, the local government chairmen and the host communities on its activities, explaining how the project would impact positively on the states, LGAs and communities within the area of its operation,” the statement added.

It also said that five point community relation strategies had been adopted in order to ensure a harmonious cooperation with the host communities.

These, they said, comprised the provision of well-paid jobs; entrepreneurship and investment opportunities; execution of development projects that would be chosen by the communities; enhancement of traditional occupation; board representation and regular communication.

Some of the advantages of the new oil production by Orient Petroleum were given as the supply of petroleum products for consumption in Nigeria while its supply of natural gas to factories would trigger industrial growth that would provide empowerment for the people and create job opportunities.

The N1bn rollover pilfer-proof caps manufacturing industry owned by an indigenous firm, Krisoral and Company Nigeria Limited, is among the industries President Goodluck Jonathan would inaugurate in Anambra State on Thursday.

The Managing Director of Krisoral, Chief Oranu Chidume, said that with the inauguration of the industry, Nigeria would be saving a huge foreign exchange hitherto spent on imported corks and bottle caps, an area he said was hardly regulated by the government.

He was optimistic that the coming of the industries would boost power supply in the area.
