President Jonathan Declares Amnesty for Boko Haram

Boni Haruna, the Minister of Youth Development, made an announcement today Thursday 29th May 2014 that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has declared amnesty for members of Islamist militant sect Boko Haram as part of his administration’s “youths-friendly programmes and policies”.

Punch reports that it was disclosed at an event tagged “A day with young leaders of Nigeria” in Abuja, and the minister asks us to embrace the government’s gesture.

“President Goodluck Jonathan has also declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect.

Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace.

Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Federal Government, to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key to amnesty programme.” he said.

Is this the way forward?

A member of the group spoke with CBS News in an interview. He calls himself Saleh Abubakar and told CBS News he's been a member of Boko Haram for seven years. He'd been reluctant to talk as Boko Haram has been declared a terrorist group in Nigeria. "We go to their school and attack some of soldiers and policemen," he said.

But when asked why his group decided to target schoolgirls, Abubakar abruptly ended the interview, asking for a safer, indoor location.

Norway Donates N259 Million To Nigeria To Support Abducted Chibok Girls When They Return

Norway is taking things a step further by pledging financial support to Nigeria. According to reports, the Norwegian government has decided to allocate 1.6 million USD (10 Million Norwegian Krone-259 Million naira) to promote safe schooling in the Northern part of Nigeria and to help the communities affected by the abductions.

Norwegian Foreign Minister, Borge Brende made the pledge recently when he met supporters for the abducted girls.

“I am greatly concerned about the situation of the kidnapped girls in Nigeria. The Norwegian government strongly condemns Boko Haram’s brutal abduction of schoolgirls,” said the foreign minister. Norway will also consider giving humanitarian aid to refugees and displaced people in the area, said Brende.

Beyonce, Jay Z & Solange Release Joint Statement On Their Elevator Fight

Y'all must have heard or watched the video of Beyonce's sister, Solange attacking Jay-Z in a hotel elevator. Well they have released a joint statement released by Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange to the Associated Press which reads thus:

"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it,Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false.At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

Ikenna Nzeribe was the sole survivor after assassins from Boko Haram stormed his Nigerian church in 2012, just 60 miles from where the jihadists last month abducted more than 200 girls. The church massacre remains vivid for Nzeribe three years later -- as are the scars on his face, neck and arm.

The Muslim extremists fired shots into the air and shouted "Allah Hu Akbar," or God is great. Nzeribe and 13 other Christians hit the floor. They were mourning how Boko Haram earlier had killed three fellow Christians, but now Boko Haram was coming for them. The masked gunmen shot the 13 worshippers in the head, fatally.

How sad!. I still cannot believe these girls are still missing. This has really got to stop. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has released the names of 180 of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and what's annoyingly strange is the highest population of the kidnapped girls are Christians, smh!

Charly Boy's father Passes On At 96

Charly Boy's father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa has passed on. The former judge of the Supreme Court and Chairman, Oputa Panel, passed on peacefully today Sunday May 4th after recovering from a brief illness. He was aged 96.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.
