29 killed, 16 injured as buses collide, burst into flames

Two buses collided head-on and burst into flames in northern Nigeria’s Yobe state on Friday, killing at least 29 people, police said.

“Two Toyota Hiace Buses… travelling in opposite directions on the Potiskum-Kano Road had a head-on collision and thereafter went off in flames.

Twenty nine persons — eleven of them burnt beyond recognition — have so far been confirmed dead,” national police spokesman Frank Mba said in a statement, adding that 16 people were also injured.

Ogun State Police command said Friday that it had arrested the coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC in Ifo, identified as Alabede Baaki who allegedly shot a member of the group Haruna Babajide during a charm-trial exercise in Ifo in Ogun state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed this through a press statement sent to journalists Friday in Abeokuta.

Couple Discover 33ft-Deep Well - Under Their Sofa!!

A couple were left stunned after finding a 33ft well - under their sofa.

Colin Steer, and wife Vanessa, both 61, who have lived in their Victorian home for 24 years first discovered a slight indentation in their living room floor after they moved in.
But Vanessa told her husband to simply cover up the 1ft-deep hole as much as possible as they had three young children in the house.

However since retiring last October, Colin began to decorate the living room and dig deeper - finding the huge hole was bigger than he had thought.

Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty killed himself Thursday after a heated argument with his estranged wife in the Bronx, police sources told the Daily News.

Lighty — a longtime manager who worked with the likes of 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — walked away from the argument after declaring “I’m tired of this,” before shooting himself in the head behind his South Riverdale home about 11:30 a.m., the sources said.

Officials of the Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were on Thursday evening battling to put out a fire that broke out from a bust pipeline at Arepo village in Ogun.

The fire was allegedly caused by suspected vandals who burst the pipelines on Thursday to siphon petroleum products.

General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said some people are impersonating him on Facebook.

He said the impersonators were fond of demanding money from unsuspecting members of the public and he (Adeboye) urged people to verify the authenticity of messages credited to him before heeding to such instructions.

Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich has won his multi-billion pound court battle with his former friend and business partner, Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky.
Mr Berezovsky, 66, was seeking more than £3bn damages after accusing the 45-year-old Russian billionaire businessman of blackmail, breach of trust and breach of contract.

The legal fight centred on deals done in Russia following the break-up of the Soviet Union two decades ago.
Mr Berezovsky claimed Mr Abramovich had "intimidated" him into selling shares in Russian oil company Sibneft at a fraction of their value.

LUTH’s Tuberculosis Observation Unit Razed

A mystery fire on Thursday night razed the Direct Observation Therapy Centre for Tuberculosis of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi Araba, Lagos.The fire was said to have been caused by an electric spark.
The fire raged for over an hour while fire fighters were said to have responded after a number of distress calls were made.

Attempts to obtain comments from senior officials of LUTH did not succeed as they did not respond to calls to their phones.

The British government has stripped a London university of its right to sponsor visas for overseas students, leaving thousands of students facing possible deportation.

This is the latest report coming from the camp of Idiagbonya Osarere Deborah better known as Debbie, who is suffering from breast cancer, is that she has started her treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

A source confirmed that Debbie has started treatment with the ‘Chemo-Therapy’ at the hospital. We learnt that the chemo treatment would precede the main surgical operation to remove the cancer.

However, sources say that she still needs money to complete her treatment, but she had to start treatments because of the time frame she has to complete the surgery in order to survive.

She has begged Nigerians to pray for her to survive the surgery.

Cheryl Cole and Will.i.am have been involved in a car crash in Los Angeles on their way home from a recording session.
The popstars were left with whiplash and bloody noses after the smash which happened early on Wednesday.
According to reports, Will.i.am was driving a Cadillac which hit a parked car. Cole was in the front passenger seat.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye

The police in Ogun on Tuesday paraded Pastor Michael Oyewole (29) and Mathew Akiode (30) at the command’s headquarters Eleweran, for allegedly exhuming human skull in Sabo, Abeokuta.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, told journalists that Akiode was caught committing the offence in the midnight.

Okoye added that after Akiode’s arrest, the suspect confessed that he was sent to get the skull by the pastor.

LAUTECH Appoints Tinubu As Chancellor

Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomosho. His appointment was contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday by Festus Adedayo, the special Adviser on Media to the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

A flame lit from that cauldron is being carried 92 miles from Buckinghamshire to London's Olympic Stadium.

Arraigned For Homosexual Rape, Bestwood Chukwuemeka, 28, Claims Alcohol Caused Him To Think He Was With His Girlfriend

A 28-year-old man, Bestwood Chuckwuemeka, was arraigned on Monday at a Karu Magistrates’ Court for sodomy.

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Mohammed, told the court that on August 8, a man from Gidan Mangoro, Abuja, reported to the divisional headquarters, Karshi, Abuja, of the action of the accused person.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has scored his administration high, saying he achieved all that he set out to do as President between 1999 and 2007.
Obasanjo said this in Lagos on Tuesday after delivering a lecture titled, ‘Leadership foundation and underpinning’ as the guest speaker at the forum of the Nigeria Leadership Initiative.

The Imo State Police command said yesterday that investigation into the murder of a former director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Chief Charles Nwosu has commenced.
