Three month old baby stolen at church in Benue State

The Benue State police command and members of St. Theresa Church at Anyin, Logo Local Government Area, are striving to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sudden disappearance of a three-month- old baby from the church, which is located at the country home of the state governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam.

According to sources, the baby was allegedly stolen by an unknown woman during mass service at the church, last Sunday.

Nigerian Tribune  gathered that the mother of the baby, Mrs Mbatumun Oseh, had handed over her baby to the strange woman, who  offered to help her hold the child who was carried by her older sister.

According to reports, when the strange woman offered to help her carry the baby, Mrs Oseh did not resist, rather she asked the woman to follow her to the front row seats in the church, where she usually sat but the woman said she preferred to seat at the back row with the baby. Mrs Oseh then asked her older child who had been backing the baby earlier to sit with the woman.

However, while the service was on, the strange woman sent the child to buy candy for her but before the little child came back, the woman, according to sources, had disappeared with the baby.

Commenting on the incident, the parish priest of the church, Reverend Father Bernard Achuku, said the entire parishioners were shocked by the incident, and that efforts were on to uncover those behind the act.

The matter was said to have been reported at the police at Ayiin and Ugba, the local government headquarters.

When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the incident, which he said was under investigations.
